Welcome to the WidgetAvenue Wiki!

This wiki is a reference for users and developers interested in the WidgetAvenue Platform. Our platform provides a WORA (Write Once, Run Anywhere) solution to develop cross-platform widgets in a very simple way. Widgets developped using our API and powered by our serving platform can be run on many different host platforms: desktop platforms such as Vista Sidebar or Apple Dashboard, startpages such as iGoogle or Netvibes, social networks such as Facebook, mobile platforms such as iPhone, etc ...

There is no standard way of coding a widget for a host platform: most host platforms have their own API. One of the key benefits of our serving platform is that it generates on the fly the "adapaters" needed to install the widgets on each host platform. We call these adapters the "loaders". The role of the "loader" is to communicate with the platform in a language it understands. The loader is usually a JavaScript envelope.

Different formats and approaches can be used to code the widget: Flash, HTML/JS, RSS, or a subset of HTML/JS, that we call waHTML/waJS . We call these formats the "roots". Choosing the right format is the first step to get started.
